SJICA Exhibitions and Public Programs
As its core programme, the ICA presents a wide-ranging schedule of eight - 12 exhibitions each year. These exhibitions represent cut-border trends in contemporary art and include drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, photography, new media works and site-specific installations addressing a range of subject matter and themes. Nosotros broaden these exhibitions with lively public programs featuring popular console discussions connecting our exhibitions with social discourse, and evenings in conversation with our exhibition artists. We actively engage our local community during Southward First Friday Art Walks by presenting ICA Live! performances designed to provide unique art experiences for our district.
Sandbox Projects
Starting time in mid-2018, the ICA is committed to presenting consecutive site-specific, immersive installations in 1 or more than of its four galleries. Entitled "Sandbox Projects," these exhibitions will transform our galleries and create monumental environments for our visitors. This programming volition distinguish the ICA as a destination for one-of-a-kind fine art and will create a sense of urgency to see these ephemeral projects. It volition also provide artists with the opportunity to create new work and aggrandize their practices.
Facade Installations
The ICA'south Facade projects animate the two front windows of the gallery, illuminating the building at dark and contributing to the vibrancy of downtown San Jose, reaching out to attendees of local
restaurants and theaters.
Talking Art
Our monthly Talking Art lecture series activates dialogue about the artwork on view in the galleries and creates opportunities to talk over related social and cultural issues. The ICA also provides sessions on professional development for artists, including annual portfolio reviews for area artists with distinguished arts professionals from throughout the region.
ICA Live!
Presented during downtown San Jose's South Commencement Fridays, ICA Alive! seeks to explore the function of performance art in contemporary society. Held every get-go Friday of the month, it is a special one-night experience that includes idea-provoking experimental art performances and opportunities to engage with contemporary artists. Performances have taken identify inside the galleries, in the Lounge, at the public park, which is located across the street from the ICA. Performances are FREE and open to the public. During Offset Fridays the ICA is open from 10AM-10PM
